Fly to Yellowknife the capital city of the Northwest Territories and get ready to start your Unique Journey. You will be escorted by your Dene, First Nations guide from Yellowknife to Fort Providence, possibly stopping for a few Bison pictures along the way.
From Fort Providence you will travel by boat on the mighty Mackenzie River, the second longest river in North America to Fort Simpson. Retrace the 1789 journey of the great Explorer Sir Alexander Mackenzie and learn about the cultural significance of the Dehcho “Big River” to the Dene people.
Fort Simpson is the oldest community on the river, located on an island where the Mackenzie and Liard Rivers meet. Enjoy a walking tour of Fort Simpson and immerse yourself in the culture and the peoples of the Dehcho region.
One of the highlights of this unique package is a scenic flight into the Nahanni National Park Reserve, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. You will land on one of the most spectacular wild rivers in North America, the South Nahanni River, to see and have lunch at the thunderous Virginia Falls (Nailicho), nearly twice as high as Niagara Falls at 295 ft.. During the flight seeing tour, your pilot will share legends of haunted valleys and lost gold in places named Deadmen Valley, Crash Lake, Headless Range and Funeral Range.
